Illinois American Water will implement a disinfectant known as chloramines into the treatment process, beginning the second week of February 2012.

Chloramination reduces the creation of disinfection byproducts during the treatment process.

Illinois American Water sent a letter to healthcare, industrial and commercial customers to communicate this change.

A bill insert is currently being distributed to residential customers in their January water bill.

Illinois American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, is an investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to nearly 1.2 million people.
