The MoU has been signed between Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), and a consortium of partners including National Thermal Power (NTPC), Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), Power Finance (PFC), Power Trading (PTC), and Gujarat Power (GPCL).
Indian Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy State Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the MOU is an opportunity in the development of renewable energy resources in the country.
The JV company will be responsible for detailed feasibility study based on the inputs received from pre-feasibility studies and will undertake necessary steps for implementation of the first offshore demonstration wind power project.
Currently, India has more than 22GW of installed onshore wind power capacity and has initiated projects towards offshore wind power development.
