The 2,600km power lines will be built to transmit the power generated from the coastal projects in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu (TN) and Andhra Pradesh (AP), with the private sector participation.

Indian Union Minister of Power Sushilkumar Shinde said the approval for development of new power lines with the private sector participation would help in strengthening power transmission system.

The power lines to be constructed under this plan will help to evacuate the power from the projects in Nagapattanam and Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu as well as from gas-based generation projects in Vemagiri and Rajamundry areas in Andhra Pradesh.

About INR36.4bn ($810m) from the total planned investment will be used to evacuate the power from projects in Andhra Pradesh.

Construction of these five power line projects is slated for completion by 2017.
