The new delivery point will enable in bypassing Suez Canal, and enabling very large crude carriers (VLCC) having larger capacities to be used.

An official said that India is presently examining whether it will be economically viable for India or not to take part in the project. India may not be directly take part in the pipeline construction. The network will be built by Turkey and Israel. Currently, of the 120 million tonnes of crude oil that India imports per year, two million tonnes are lifted from Ceyhan, where crude oil from Azerbaijan lands. The plan is to bring oil from nations such as Azerbaijan through a pipeline to the Ceyhan terminal in south-east Turkey.
