India, which is facing a food-price inflation crisis due to shortages, is not seeking to develop biofuels from food grains. Instead, the country is reportedly seeking to develop jatropha-based biofuel capabilities.

The Indian government reportedly has plans to set up a board to formulate and implement a comprehensive plan for the production of alternative fuels.

Vilasrao Muttemwar, the Indian minister for non-conventional energy, has stated that India is looking at biofuels but is definitely not considering the use of food grains for the production of biofuels, as a large portion of the country’s population is facing food shortages.
