Delhi Division of the Indian Railways will contract the installation work to a private player and consequently purchase energy generated by the system at a fixed cost, reported the Indian Express.

Installation of the panels will help the station reduce energy cost, conserve energy utilization, making it the first green station in the region.

Delhi Divisional Rail Manager A K Sachan said that these installations will reduce the dependence on conventional sources of power.

Sachan also indicated that the installation will start by the end of 2012 and is expected to cost INR15m ($273,000).
