About 25 Renewable Energy Service Companies (Rescos) have bid for the joint proposal made by the Tower and Infrastructure Providers’ Association comprising Indus, Bharti Infratel, American Tower Corporation and Viom for the project.

The association invited NGOs and private green power companies to build renewable-energy based power plants near telecom towers and supply power to the towers.

The power is expected to be sold on a pay per use approach, at a predetermined price, reported The Hindu Business Line.

The proposal has come in the wake of recent regulation by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) that a minimum of 50% of towers and 20% of the urban towers must be powered by hybrid energy sources (renewable and grid) by 2015 with an objective to reduce carbon emissions in the country.
