The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have agreed to collaborate on the creation of a Centre of Excellence for Clean Energy.
The centre will bring together knowledge and research on clean energy, facilitate clean energy investments, and help deploy clean energy technology solutions coming from both the public and private sectors. ADB is providing technical assistance support to develop the initial concept of the centre and is aiming to make use of inputs from international partners to help set it up.
"ADB is pleased to support the government of Indonesia in reaching our shared vision of a clean and sustainable energy sector in Indonesia, and welcomes this significant collaboration with the government and our partners," said Steven Tabor, Country Director at ADB’s Indonesia Resident Mission.
The centre will play a key role in accelerating Indonesia’s goal to source a significant amount of its total energy requirements from renewable energy by 2025. It will also support the government’s goals of strengthening energy efficiency, the gas sector, and clean fuels, thereby bolstering the overall sustainability of the energy sector.
Representatives from government ministries, national agencies, energy and research institutions, and the private sector will be given a common platform through the centre for integrating knowledge and research, for facilitating investment, and for assisting in the deployment of innovative technology solutions. The centre will operate initially as an online virtual portal until physical premises are built on Bali.
