Electricity generated at the power plant in West Java will be supplied to Bali and Java for 30 years, the company said.
PT PLN, a state utility company, will purchase the electricity produced at the $850m Cirebon power plant at a price of 4.43 US cents per kWh.
Marubeni said the Cirebon generating facility introduces supercritical technology, a new technology which realizes lower carbon dioxide emissions, higher efficiency and environmentally-friendly power generation.
The project was initiated by privately owned company PT Cirebon Electric Power (CEP) under the independent power producer scheme.
Marubeni owns a 32.5% stake in CEP, followed by Korea Midland Power and Korea-based Samtan who owns 27.5% and 20% respectively. Indonesia’s publicly listed Indika Energy also owns a minority stake.
