Santos will operate the Blocks WA-513-P and WA-514-P with 60% participating interest while Inpex Browse will hold a 40% stake.

Located approximately 500km north-northeast of Broome, off the coast of the state of Western Australia, the blocks are sited near large gas reserves including the Ichthys gas-condensate field, as well as the Prelude and Concerto gas fields.

The Blocks WA-513-P and WA-514-Pcover 335km2 and 415km2 respectively.

With the new acquisition, Inpex holds a total of 13 exploration permits or retention leases in the vicinity of the Ichthys.

The Ichthys gas-condensate field is a part of the Ichthys LNG project, located around 200km offshore Western Australia.

The Ichthys LNG project is jointly owned by Inpex group companies, Total group companies and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.

The project will have an initial capacity to produce 8.4 million tons of LNG a year and 1.6 million tones of liquefied petroleum gas a year, and around 100,000 barrels of condensate a day.
