The EUR480m power plant will generate enough electricity to serve approximately 400,000 homes. MaasStroom Energie complements InterGen’s existing 820MW Rijnmond Energie facility, which commenced operation in 2004.

Neil Smith, president and CEO of InterGen, said: “We are very pleased to be bringing MaasStroom online. With this project, InterGen is now meeting 7.5% of the country’s total electricity demand, further reinforcing our commitment to power development in this country.”

InterGen said that MaasStroom Energie makes use of advanced turbine technology. Siemens provided engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the plant.

MaasStroom Energie has a 20-year tolling contract with Oxxio, which is purchasing the project’s electrical output and supplying its gas.

Kees-Jan Bus, CEO of Oxxio, said: “The new plant not only enables us to offer our customers competitive prices, it also provides a broader base for delivering power to our clients.”
