Located approximately 120 miles west of Chicago, the power plant features GE 7FA gas turbines and GE steam turbines. The project supported the region with around 350 jobs during the construction phase.
The plant is developed by Invenergy Development, a joint venture between an affiliate of Invenergy and Stark Investments. It will be operated and maintained by Invenergy’s affiliate Invenergy Services.
WPPI Energy, a power company that serves 51 locally-owned electric utilities, will purchase a portion of output generated by the Nelson plant, while the remaining will be sold into the PJM wholesale market.
Invenergy chief development officer Jim Shield said: "We’re proud to continue to invest in Illinois’ clean energy economy, with our statewide operating portfolio – which includes wind, solar, and energy storage projects as well – now totaling more than 1,200 MW."
Invenergy develops, owns, and operates renewable and other clean energy generation and storage facilities in North America and Europe.
The company has so far developed more than 9,000MW of projects, including 75 wind, solar, and natural gas-fueled power generation projects and energy storage facilities.
