The facility is owned and operated by Invenergy, with all the power being sold to Xcel Energy under a long-term power purchase agreement.

The Cannon Falls Energy Center is comprised of two GE Model 7FA simple-cycle combustion turbines and associated equipment. Each combustion turbine is capable of producing approximately 175MW of electricity.

The facility will be utilized to assist in meeting peak power demands in the region. Power engineering major GE has served as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project.

Michael Polsky, CEO of Invenergy, said: We are pleased to be working with Xcel Energy to help them meet the growing electricity demand in Minnesota. This project represents another important piece of Invenergy’s growing portfolio of clean energy facilities.
