The nine plants will be on existing industrial and business development parks or brown field sites in Scotland. The electricity produced by the plants will be enough to supply 140,000 homes.

Construction work on the plants will start in the first quarter of 2010 and the company targets to have all nine sites up and running within three years.

The company has launched a GBP300 million fund for building those plants.

For the launch of its biomass fund, Invicta Capital has brought together a consortium including New Park Management. New Park Management will provide access to a number of development sites, planning advice and building management services.

Invicta Capital’s Managing Director Niall Bamford said: “Biomass is part of our energy solution. It will never provide for all of our needs.”

An electricity purchase agreement is currently being negotiated by the company with a UK utility. Bamford said that he was in discussion with at number of utility firms, including Scottish ones.

Scottish Renewables Chief Executive Niall Stuart said: “The industry has the potential to create jobs and investment in rural areas of Scotland, as that is where the fuel source is.”
