Abu Dhabi intends to build the pipeline to avoid the Strait, the 33-mile-wide channel via which Persian Gulf oil producers ship their crude exports.

The crude oil will be provided from the onshore Habshan field in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi pumps 95% of the crude in the UAE.

The Adcop project will also comprise of building storage and terminal facilities for the crude export from Fujairah. The project is surrounded by the Hajar mountain range. A refinery project at the location is also being considered by IPIC.

However, Dieter Blauberg, the Adcop project director, plans for the Fujeirah refinery project are still in the early stages, with land reclamation scheduled to finish by 2011.
