The 56in gas pipeline will be constructed starting from Assaluyeh onshore installations of South Pars Gas Field to the Iran-Iraq border. It will supply gas to the three gas-burning power plants in Iraq.

Iran and Iraq have taken steps to build the pipeline and will soon draft a plan to extend the pipeline to Syria, according to Iran Petroleum Ministry spokesperson Alireza Nikzad Rahbar.

Friendship gas pipeline is expected to further strengthen regional and religious ties among the three countries as well as other
Muslim countries in the region, Ranhbar further added.

The gas pipeline is expected to have enough capacity to supply gas from Iran to other neighbouring Muslim countries, including Jordan and Lebanon.

Friendship gas pipeline may also be extended to the European countries if needed.
