Islamic Republic News Agency cited AEOI head Ali Akbar Salehi as saying: "I am going to Moscow to sign an agreement for the construction of new nuclear power plants."

Under the terms of the agreement, Russia will construct two 1,000MW nuclear power plants next to Iran’s only existing plant in the southern Gulf port city of Bushehr, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The Russian-built 1000MW Bushehr power plant was handed over to Iran in September 2013.

Iran is planning to construct a total of 20 power plants in the future, including four in Bushehr alone, aimed at decreasing its reliance on oil and gas.

Meanwhile, Russia is also seeking to develop 10 new conventional electrical power plants in Iran.
