Also $16 billion has been invested in gas production from Golshan and Ferdows gas fields and $20 billion in the South Pars gas field. Nozari also stated that Iran is expected to assume the post of secretary general of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in case there is a scarcity of consensus on the issue.

Under the charter of Gas Exporting Countries Forum, in case there is no consensus on a candidate, the secretary general should be chosen on alphabetic order. So, there is the possibility that the post would go to Iran for a certain period, Nozari said.

Commenting on the performance of OPEC secretary general, Nozari said that all members are pleased with him and the issue was discussed in the organization’s meeting in March 2009 in which there was agreement among the participants. He also stated that country has become self-sufficient in gasoline production.

On OPEC decision about production levels in its Vienna meeting in June 2008, Nozari said that prices have shown record rise but I do not think they were caused by market fundamentals or supply and demand. The next OPEC meeting will decide on oil production ceiling for the next three months after reviewing market conditions and indices.

Nozari also said it is unfeasible to impose gasoline sanctions on Iran.

We have been working on the self-dependence plan of gasoline imports for two years and this plan can be materialized in the emergency situations. For the time being, there are different sources to provide gasoline for the country and it is impossible to put sanctions on Iran.
