The gas meter is expected to help utilities measure and manage gas through accurate and detailed usage data as well as reduce business costs by using capabilities, such as remote asset monitoring, advanced alarms and remote valve operation.
Itron EMEA Energy vice president and managing director Remy Brill said, "Itron’s advanced smart gas meter supports multiple communications options, providing utilities with the flexibility they need as they deploy smart meters."
The gas meter features electronic temperature compensation, data logging, advanced alarms, a remote service shut-off valve and an advanced user interface with a digital display.
Initially, this new product is targeted for the UK and Italy and later it will be introduced to other European countries, the company said.
