IVRCL Infrastructures & Project had secured the contact from Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) for detailed design, engineering, financing, procurement, construction, operation, maintenance and transfer of the seawater desalination plant on 25 years DBOOT basis.

IVRCL and its technical partner Befesa Agua of Spain had created special purpose vehicle, Chennai Water Desalination (CWDL) for the implementation of the project.

The desalination plant worth INR6000m will supply potable drinking water to the Chennai city through a bulk water purchase agreement signed between CWDL and Chennai Metrowater and Sewerage Supply Board.

S Ramachandran, managing director of IVRCL Assets & Holdings and director of CWDL, said: “We are extremely happy to announce the completion of the sea water desalination plant at Minjur. We are happy to help bridge the gap between demand and supply of safe drinking water in the city through our project.”
