Jacobs will provide engineering, procurement and construction management services in relation to about $2bn of gas gathering and water pipelines, wellhead production facilities and export pipelines for the development of the southern sector of Block 61, under the terms of the contract.

The company noted that the scope of the work includes the detailed design and program management for the associated project infrastructure.

Jacobs Group vice president Conor Doyle said the company is working with the Sultanate of Oman and BP on the major new upstream project in Oman.

"We see tremendous opportunities to leverage our technical experience in tight gas projects with our infrastructure capability in the region, and are pleased to support this pioneering development," Doyle added.

The government of the Sultanate of Oman and BP announced a gas sales agreement and an amended production sharing agreement for the development of Khazzan field, with BP as operator, in December 2013.
