For the Unocal East China Sea-operated project, Jacobs provided engineering and project management services from its offices located in China, Australia, the US, the Netherlands and Canada.
Unocal, a subsidiary of Chevron has also licensed Jacobs’ Comprimo Sulfur Solutions technology.
Comprimo, which is a suite of gas treating and sulfur recovery technologies, assists clients in gas sweetening, sulfur recovery and tail gas treatment.
Chevron wholly-owned subsidiary Unocal East China Sea operates the field with 49% interest while the remaining 51% stake is held by China National Petroleum Corporation.
Jacobs Engineering Group senior vice-president Steve Axcell said: "We are proud to contribute to this significant milestone for Chevron in China.
"We are also pleased to provide our Comprimo technology, which is built on more than 40 years of research and development."
Located in the northeast of Sichuan Basin, bordering on Chongqing in the east, the Chuandongbei project comprises Luojiazhai, Gunziping, Tieshanpo and Dukouhe-Qilibei gas fields.
The Chuandongbei block is estimated to have proven reserves of 176 billion cubic meter (bcm) of natural gas and recoverable natural gas resources of 3 trillion cubic feet (tcf).
The project was initially due to become operational in 2010, but was delayed as it is a complex field containing high hydrogen sulfide content.
