Japan government will consider all these projects under a new energy law enforced by it effective 1 July 2012, enabling them to get subsidies.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) data for the first month of the subsidy scheme, about 81 solar power projects totaling to about 243MW each with 1MW or more capacity and about six wind power projects totaling 122MW obtained the approval.

Solar panels installed over the roofs of homeowners and small firms totaling 202MW and small-sized hydro power projects of capacity 0.2MW are also under approved projects.

The approval calls for all the projects to sign contracts with utilities by March 2012 to receive subsidy and supply power at the premium price determined until March 31.
