Coal from the Southeast African mines will supply coal for JSPL’s steel and power projects in India.

JSPL chairman Naveen Jindal was quoted by The Economic Times as saying that the company intends to start its coal production in Mozambique by end of this year.

"We will be sourcing coal from Mozambique to India (to feed our plants)," Jindal added.

The Mozambique mine, where the company expects to produce 10 million tons of coal a year at peak level, contains coking as well as thermal coal.

JSPL has plans to construct a 2,640MW thermal power plant, and a coal washery in Mozambique. High ash content at the mine will be cut down at the washery
