Situated in the municipality of Taltal, in the Antofagasta region of northern Chile, the project is anticipated to be completed in the second half of this year.

Upon completion, the project is estimated to produce enough energy to meet the annual consumption of nearly 200,000 homes.

Antofagasta Minerals’ affliate Minera Los Pelambres will buy the energy generated from the project under a 22-year power purchase agreement.

The project, which is expected to cost $205m, will connect to the Sistema Interconectado Central (SIC) transmission system and is situated on public lands owned by the government of Chile, under a long-term concession.

JinkoSolar global sales and marketing vice president Gener Miao said: "Our relationship with Pattern Development further strengthens our leading position in this important emerging market.

"It is another demonstration of our world-class capabilities and service to our international customers. We look forward to leveraging our expertise and working with more solar project industry leaders in the future."

Pattern Development, a US-based independent power producer, will also be the owner of the Conejo Solar project.

Conejo Solar is Pattern Development’s first foray into solar development in Chile. Last November, Chile International Renewable Energy Congress awarded the project with the Renewables Collaboration of the year award for its innovative industry collaboration which can have a positive impact on the country’s renewable energy industry development.
