The company said that the modular system requires lesser land and capital investment than the conventional ones.
The SunSprings plant directly and continuously converts solar energy into liquid fuels. It will produce Joule Sunflow-E for the ethanol market. Sunflow-E is produced from sunlight and industrial waste CO2.
Joule plans to set up a commercial level plant on 1,200 acres in Hobbs to produce up to 25,000 gallons of Sunflow-E per acre annually.
Joule founder and chairman Noubar Afeyan said that based on several advances Joule has produced a platform to sustainably produce liquid fuels at costs competitive with all existing alternatives.
"Now we are eager to show the promise of commercial production," he added.
The company has also launched a global subsidiary, Joule Fuels, to support the commercialization.
