The state’s chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who reviewed all the current power projects, has made the decision. Energy Minister K S Eshwarappa informed that the state government is planning to add 5000MW of additional power to its state grid in the coming five years.

Currently the state generates 7000MW of power.

The state is expecting to receive around 500MW from the Nandikur thermal power plant near Udupi that is expected to start in the fisrt quarter of 2010 and 250MW from the 8th unit of Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS).
