The contract will be valid until the end of 2019, and under the contract uranium will be supplied as per market pricing mechanism.
India and Kazakhstan have signed an agreement in April 2011 for cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The agreement followed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the two countries in 2009.
Under the MOU, Kazakhstan agreed to supply uranium to India and also expressed its interest in possible nuclear power projects.
Between 2011 and 2014, Kazatomprom worked with Nuclear Power Corporation of India on a uranium supply contract, which was completed in December 2014.
Kazatomprom is responsible for import and export of uranium, rare metals, nuclear fuel for power plants, special equipment technologies and dual-purpose materials.
The company deals in geological exploration, uranium production, manufacture of nuclear fuel cycle products, reactor construction, nuclear power plants.
