Situated at Bayer Material Science’s industrial site, the facility is capable of producing the entire range of Kemira’s aluminum and iron-based coagulants that are utilized for drinking water and wastewater treatment.
The plant also produces functional chemicals used for the paper industry. Kemira’s municipal & industrial segment utilizes about 70% recycled input materials.
Kemira president and CEO Jari Rosendal said: "The joint capacity of the Tarragona plant and the Dormagen plant in Germany, also opened recently, is instrumental in sustaining Kemira’s leadership position in the water treatment market in EMEA.
"The total investment in the two plants was approximately EUR 40 million. Our competitive advantage in the water treatment sector is based on high supply reliability, speed of delivery and logistics flexibility as well as comprehensive product range and application support."
Finland-based global chemicals firm Kemira serves customers in water-intensive industries. It focuses on pulp & paper, oil & gas, mining and water treatment.
The company’s annual revenue was EUR2.1bn in 2014. It employed about 4,250 people.
