The companies intend to combine their respective competence in minerals and oil sands processing technology and water treatment applications to offer customers process optimization enabling cost-efficiency, sustainability and quality improvements.

This will be done by utilizing the research programs of SWEET, the Center of Water Efficiency Excellence, which Kemira established with VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) to develop new technology for enhancing water usage and recycling in the water-intensive industries.

The jointly crafted business model is expected to help both the companies in expanding their geographical presence within mining applications and oil sands processing related industries by providing new water treatment technology.

Outotec president and CEO Pertti Korhonen said that the strategic cooperation with Kemira will strengthen its water-related businesses and enable it to offer new value-adding technologies and services to its customers.

“We have expertise in water treatment of minerals processing and metallurgical plants, and our aim is to further expand our offerings to new industrial water treatment applications. This a great opportunity for Outotec to create new revenue streams,” Korhonen said.
