Wind, Biomass and small hydro power generation plants are some of the plans the energy sector intends to use to produce more power for the growing demand.

Njoroge was speaking on May 11, 2009 during the opening of the Kenya Renewable Energy workshop held in Nairobi. The USAid African infrastructure program director, Jeffrey Humber said that governments in the continent often receive a raw deal on the bargaining table as they can not afford to send qualified experts for each sector.

Humber said that USAID is funding African governments with the aim of helping them send the most qualified people on the bargaining table to achieve the best results.

Humber said that he expects that the workshop will improve the negotiating power for the developers in the power generation sector which often depends on donor funding for its projects.

The renewable energy emphasis has received support since president Barrack Obama took power and promised that 10% of US power will be generated from renewable sources by 2012.
