Planned to be developed with an investment of Rs35bn ($548.1m), the green energy corridor is part of the government’s efforts to make the state a renewable energy hub in the next four years.

Andhra Pradesh energy, industries and infrastructure secretary Ajay Jain said that the government will initially spend around Rs12.89bn ($201.8m) to develop the corridor.

According to State Energy Conservation Mission, the federal Power Ministry has allocated Rs5.15bn ($80.6m) for the project.

The state is working with the central government and international financial institutions, to secure financing for the project.

State-owned transmission and distribution companies are likely to mobilize funds from Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC).

The state government plans to establish a taskforce to accelerate renewable energy projects, and intends to generate 5,000MW solar and 4,000MW wind power by 2019.

Jain said that the government is also working on plans to develop a 2,500MW solar park.
