KPCL Chief Engineer S Ramesh said that “We are in the process of preparing the DPR for the 2×135 MW Shivasamudram Seasonal Power Scheme and likely to submit it for clearance by the end of March. Geotechnical surveys and investigations are in progress and construction work is likely to start by the end of November 2009. The project is expected to be complete in 2 years from the date of commencement of work.”

Ramesh further said that “The project is estimated to cost INR 650 crore which will be met through equity and loans from banks and financial institutions. It is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2011.”

The project consists of a weir, underground powerhouse with intake and exit tunnels.

KPCL has also completed the detailed project report (DPR) for the 2×200 MW Gundia hydropower project to be set up in the Western Ghats in Hassan district. The approval of the ministry of environment and forests and other clearances are expected by June 2009. Project work is expected to start in November 2009 and completed in 4 years.

KPCL is also taking up thermal power projects at Yermaras 2×800 MW and Yedlapur 1×800 MW, close to Raichur thermal power station in Raichur district. KPCL will set up a JV with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd for these projects. The total estimated cost is INR120 billion.

Ramesh further added that the DPR for solar power projects of 3 MW each to be set up in Kolar, Belgaum and Raichur districts is ready. KPCL expects to get the approval soon and work on the projects will start in March 2009.
