An official from AES-Sonel, a power supply firm, announced earlier that the plant should be completed in December 2013 and go operational in the first quarter of 2013.

The Kribi Gas-fired Power Plant, which was supposed to have started functioning by the end of February 2013, was delayed due tosome reasons.

A new date of operation has been set, and the energy supply by the plant is likely to begin during the last week of March 2013.

KPDC general manager Hans Francis Simb Nag was quoted by Cameroon Tribune as saying that the plant offers additional capacity to the current 1015MW supply by AES in Cameroon.

The power plant will add over 20% energy to AES’ existing energy capacity, and also help curb blackouts and energy rationing.
