The $200m power unit is expected to produce between 500 and 700 million kWh of electricity each year.

The construction of the power project was started in the 1990s, and was abandoned due to lack of funding.

Kyrgyzstan resumed construction of the project, which is partly funded by Russia, three years ago.

The country has planned a second unit, which is also costing $200m, at the Kambarata-2 project, and this is expected to be followed by a third unit.
