The wind farm will be located in the Hebei province, which is one of the windiest areas of China. As well as providing the funding for a wind farm, the company is to provide hydro-electric power to an area of Taijikistan, through the installation of two hydro electricity generators supplied by a naturally formed lake in Tajikistan.

The auto company said this program will offset 150,000 tons of CO2 a year and that further projects are being considered by Land Rover in Africa and India.

Land Rover’s managing director, Phil Popham, said that the company is reducing CO2 through an ‘integrated’ approach, which also includes working on hybrids and other technologies that directly reduce emissions from vehicles.

The CO2 Offset Program is run by Climate Care and is overseen by an independent body. Land Rover is owned by a division of the Ford Motor Company, which is investing in environmental technologies in Europe.
