Eight existing customers and two new customers have selected Landis+Gyr’s TS2 two-way advanced metering system in 2008. Barron Electric, Sulphur Springs Valley Electric, Holly Springs Municipal, Claverack REC, Sangre De Cristo Electric, Intermountain REA, Wells REC and Sequachee Valley Electric will be transitioning from the TS1 one-way system, while Monroe County Electric Power Association and Niobrara Electric Association are deploying advanced metering for the first time.

Landis+Gyr said that it has made system migration easier for customers of its power line carrier (PLC)-based technology by designing a multi-purpose data collector that communicates with both TS1 and TS2 systems, allowing utilities to deploy endpoints more efficiently. The TS2 system is a full two-way advanced metering system that uses frequency division technology to communicate with every meter simultaneously.

Jeff Carkhuff, general manager of PLC product for Landis+Gyr’s energy management solutions division, said: Utilities are responding to the future vision we have for our PLC products and the enhancements we continue to provide. We make it a priority to offer our customers a migration path and ensure we protect the investments they have made through the years in dollars and staff training.
