TEPCO is a Japan-based electric utility, which accepted Toshiba’s proposal for a smart metering system.

Japan-based multinational engineering and electronics conglomerate Toshiba will be the main contractor of the project and system integrator of the communication.

Toshiba will work on the project along with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) Group, which is a Japanese telecommunications company and NEC a local multinational provider of information technology.

Landis+Gyr will provide most of the project’s technical foundation, including the supply of Head End System (HES), network
expertise, RF communications modules, large scale product deployment experience and the MDMS.

Landis+Gyr Global Gridstream Team vice president and chief SOLUTION officer Marius Chilom said the company has set up a team to benefit from its Gridstream suite and network expertise for the worldwide utility market.

"We think TEPCO’s approach to this massive upgrade project truly represents the new way of business in the industry and will become a flagship for how utilities will approach the next generation infrastructure," Chilom added.
