As part of the two year project, LG will provide its related expertise to the research of smart homes, energy management and consumer electronics.

In addition, the Korean company will focus on the development of effective home energy management systems.

For this demonstration project, LG will also install its various products, including advanced air conditioners, smart refrigerators, and smart washing machines in participating homes.

Under the Pecan Street’s research trials in Austin, over 450 volunteer homeowners are testing energy and consumer electronic products and services, while their energy use is analyzed.

LG Electronics chief technology officer stated, "In addition to our leadership in energy-efficient smart appliances, our involvement with Pecan Street demonstrates LG’s ongoing commitment to smart grid technology."
