The loan will support the repair and expansion of the hydroelectric plant, which was destroyed by rebel forces in 1992.

Anticipated cost for the up-gradation and repair of the hydroelectric facility is about $230m with donors expected to provide $107m, while the governments of Norway and Germany are expected to provide $75m and $32m in grants respectively.

The Liberian government has also assigned $45m in this year’s budget for the project, reported the africareview.com.

Upgrades and repairs at the project are expected to start in January 2013.
