Mátrai Eromu, an 800 MWe lignite-fired plant in Hungary, is the first in the country to be fitted with a flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) unit. Babcock Borsig are to supply three of the units for around HUF15 billion ($59 million) together with Hungarian partners EGI. The retrofit will bring the plant up to EU standards. The installation at unit three of Mátrai Eromu is expected to cost in the region of $15 million and is due to be completed in October. The project, launched in 1997, will extend the life of the plant to 2015.
