The operator spud the well situated 35km northwest of the Ula oil field in the North Sea with an objective to prove petroleum in Late Cretaceous reservoir rocks – the Tor formation.

Lotos EPN had drilled the well as the first exploration in the PL 498 to vertical depths of 3,065m below sea surface and was terminated in the Tor formation in Late Cretaceous.

The well encountered 25m thick reservoir rocks with poorer reservoir quality than expected in the Tor formation.

The Maersk Guardian drilling facility was used to spud the 7/8-6 S well, which has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
