The average sale rate was $30,468 per carat. Among all the diamond sold, a single 239 carat stone grossed an amount of $5.75m, while four other diamonds were sold for more than $2.5m each.

Lucara Diamonds president and CEO William Lamb stated that the special tender validates quality of diamonds that the company is currently mining from its Karowe mine.

"To be in a position to hold a large stone tender within the first year of production is exceptional, especially when considering that all the diamonds sold, were recovered from a regular production cycle," added Lamb.

Lucara is planning to hold an additional large stone tender during the latter part of 2013 on the back of large diamonds being recovered over the past few weeks.
