The well will assess the hydrocarbon potential and reservoir properties of the Jurassic section of the prospect at a depth of 3,500m.

The license area is located 180km west of Florø on the Norwegian west coast and approximately 40km northwest of the Snorre field.

The company will use semi-submersible drilling unit Bredford Dolphin to carry out the drilling, which is scheduled for 60 days.

The Morkel prospect is expected to have unrisked, gross prospective resources of 74 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), the company said.

Lundin Norway operates the PL579 block with 50% working interest while other partners include Bayerngas Norge and Fortis Petroleum Norway with 30% and 20%, respectively.
