Located in the production license 265 (PL265), the well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,047m subsea in water depth of 115m using the Transocean Leader rig.
The main objective of the well was to prove the continuity and the presence of Upper Jurassic sandstone reservoir north of the Aldous Major South discovery.
According to the company, a gross oil column within an eight-meter interval was discovered in a Upper Jurassic reservoir.
The reservoir was thinner and of lesser quality than anticipated, and the well is being plugged and abandoned.
Lundin Petroleum holds a 10% interest in PL265, while Statoil Petroleum (operator), Petoro and Det norske oljeselskap hold 40%, 30% and 20% interests, respectively.
