The Alberta prospect lies 65km north-west of the Snorre field.
The 6201/11-3 well is being drilled using the semi-submersible drilling rig Bredford Dolphin to test Cretaceous and Triassic age sandstones of a multiple target structure.
Lundin estimates the Albert prospect to contain unrisked, gross, prospective resources of 177 million barrels of oil equivalent.
The well is expected to take about 55 days to reach a total depth of 3,150m, the company said.
Lundin as operator holds a 40% operated interest in PL 519 and is partnered by Bayerngas Norge, Norwegian Energy Company and Spring Energy Norway, holding a 20% interest each respectively.
