The company intends to build a 330MW solar generation and 100MW battery storage system in Riverland, claimed to be the largest project of its kind in the world.

Lyon partner David Green was quoted by ABC News as saying that the project was fully equity financed, with construction to start within months.

The project will include around 3.4 million solar panels and 1.1 million batteries.

Green was quoted by The Guardian as saying: “The combination of the solar and the battery will significantly enhance the capacity available in the South Australian market.

“We see the inevitability of the need to have large-scale solar and integrated batteries as part of any move to decarbonise."

Last year, the firm announced plans to develop another solar and battery storage project in at Roxby Downs in South Australia.

The Kingfisher project has been designed to include 120MW solar and 100MW lithium-ion battery system. Construction of the project is scheduled to start in September next year.

Green said: "If the 4.7 million solar panels at Riverland and Kingfisher were placed end to end, they would reach from Adelaide to Brisbane and back, and then all the way to Melbourne."
