The company will utilize the 82,000sqft facility, which will employ approximately 200 workers, to design new EVs and cells and battery packs, hybrid and EV components, and complete hybrid and EV systems.

Auburn Hills facility joins Magna E-Car Systems’ current portfolio of three facilities in the US and three facilities in Europe, working on several programs, including the Ford Focus Battery Electric Vehicle, a Volvo hybrid program and powertrain controllers for General Motors.

In August 2009, the company received funding from the Department of Energy as part of the $2.4bn in Recovery Act funding to support electric-drive vehicle components manufacturing.

Magna E-Car Systems North America president Ted Robertson said that Magna E-Car Systems, together with many of its supporters and collaborators from government and private industry, are able to officially unveil this modern facility.

“Magna E-Car Systems has a full range of industry-leading capabilities and this facility represents an important step forward as we work to develop effective, innovative solutions for future mobility,” Robertson said.
