The deal, which is still in its infancy or ‘term sheet’ stage, requires a transmission line running down the west side of Manitoba to be finished by 2017. It also means new generating stations in the north including the 1380MW Conawapa project, and the proposed 200MW Wuskwatim and 620MW Keeyask generating stations if demand for export power sales increase.
Manitoba Hydro has already signed a ‘term sheet’ with Minnesota to sell 250MW of power over 15 years starting in 2020. Two-thirds of the C$592M in revenue for the company comes from Minnesota.
Power sales out ide of the province are expected to hit C$5.5B in revenue over the next decade.
