Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate on various GHG emissions reduction projects including Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) in developing countries, biomass utilization, renewable energy projects and generation of emissions credit from those activities.

Marubeni has been participating in GHG emission reduction projects overseas, obtained emissions credits from its projects, and has provided them to Japanese buyers including Japanese Government.

In cooperation with Cargill, Marubeni will seek to develop GHG emission reduction projects under the current Kyoto Protocol as well as Post-Kyoto framework, to enhance its function and organization to tackle the climate change and explore various procurement routes of emissions credits.
